In the Zone Executive Coaching (ZEC) is an interactive process between two people (client and coach) with the purpose of developing a profoundly new level of leadership and communication skills. This is accomplished by creating a vision of who you want to be and then resolving All internal conflicts or barriers in the way of making your visions a reality.
The coaching process is like being interviewed. The skilled coach asks the client as many questions as it takes for the client to get clear about what he or she wants to do. If a client is confused about what options exist, the coach and client create possible options to choose from. The coaching process is usually a combination of skill development and decision-making. A certain amount of each session is spent on developing the skills you want to fine-tune combined with time spent on dealing with whatever issues you are currently facing that need strategy and action.
The Coaching Process involves the following four steps:
The initial step of the ZEC is to better understand yourself in terms of the style and approach that you naturally take toward your interactions with people and your work-related projects along with defining your primary motivation and sense of purpose. Unfortunately, most people have learned numerous ways of doing things that don’t really fit “who they most enjoy being.” This is a major source of internal conflict for people and becomes a primary focus of the Coaching Process.
It’s also important to define what experiences throughout your life have brought you the greatest amount of personal satisfaction. More specifically, we identify the times in your life when you felt the best about yourself and what you were able to accomplish. Then we specify what you were doing and feeling at those times. This creates a peak performance model, which gives you a highly effective guide for making better decisions and life choices.
The third step is to develop strategies around any barriers that we mutually agree need attention. This is a process of creating new approaches to certain aspects of your business behavior to better fit your personal style and overall strengths. The focus here is to get your approaches to the key aspects of your business to be more effective and eliminate internal conflict.
The fourth step is to put the new strategies into action and observe the results. From here we modify and make corrections to come up with the most effective approaches that feel right to you. This step takes the form of conversations and assignments that will best assist you in creating new habits.
I believe we each have the answers to our challenges in life somewhere within ourselves…they just may not be in our conscious awareness yet. And, these answers are often not easy to get at for a couple of reasons.
Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to get someone to just listen to you (so you can hear what you have to say) and not instantly start to tell you what they would do if they were you? Since they aren’t you, their perspective may not help much. This information is being offered with good intention, but is limited in terms of helping you determine what course of action really feels right to you. Hiring a skilled coach is hiring a professional who knows how to listen and what questions to ask to keep you processing until you get at your answer.
Often people think they should be able to solve the challenges of life without assistance from anyone else. Again, the problem is that these answers may be hard to get at by yourself. Have you ever experienced going around and around on an issue and not being able to determine a course of action? The answers to our most difficult challenges in life are in our intuitive feelings. If we could “figure out” effective solutions to all our dilemmas, we would have done so by now.
I like to assure potential clients that they will discover the answers to their challenges in life over time, but why struggle for what could be years when you can have answers in hours or minutes? In this way, the Coaching Process is really a way to shorten the amount of time it takes to achieve your goals. It is also a way to stop going around in circles and make some decisions and commitments. If you’re ready to discover your own unique answers to your career challenges, In the Zone Executive Coaching will work for you.
First, we determine the barriers in the way of achieving your goals and create strategies to address those barriers. We talk as often as needed to define and implement the new strategies (usually weekly). The initial coaching phase is 3-4 months (10 hours) which is plenty of time to make substantial progress toward getting you to the next level. We can then create a follow-up program that will best fit your situation.
ZEC participants will get a combination of the following benefits depending on their needs and objectives:
As mentioned above, you will see results immediately. The first step of behavior change is becoming aware of your automatic responses to a variety of situations. Once you are more aware of the choices you are consciously or unconsciously making, we can then experiment with new options in order to find the approach that will work best for you. Experience is the best teacher. Together, we create different approaches that you are willing to try, then we keep the ones you like, discard the others.
You and I have a conversation to discuss what you want to accomplish and confirm that we are a good match for a coaching project. I tell potential clients if it feels intuitively right to move forward, trust that the program will work for you. If it doesn’t feel right for any reason, we may not be the right match at this time. There is no charge for this initial exploratory conversation. And, remember, I am a champion of the low-key approach to sales and self-promotion, so no high-pressure nonsense from me! Let's talk...
